MAIN STREET-CRISES & RESTORATION

As the decade of the '90's dawned in Melrose, a harsh realization dawned upon the residents of our area---
WE WERE ABOUT TO LOSE OUR MAIN STREET!!!

The critical need to save Melrose's Main street was obvious to all who saw, lived in or loved this town.

We knew it would be an AWESOME TASK as we toured the seriously deteriorated buildings. Most had roofs leaking or nearly gone, windows broken out, doors gone, boards falling off, paint peeling or absent altogether.

The insides of the buildings were filled with debris. Coons had moved into some-even REJECTED & moved OUT of others.

Six buildings were in a serious state of deterioration, four in imminent danger of being lost, and one was scheduled to be demolished.
